BRITISH SCOOTER SPRINTING ASSOCIATION (BSSA)

The British Scooter Sprinting Association (BSSA) represents the scooter-focused side of UK sprint racing, bringing together riders who compete on highly tuned Vespas, Lambrettas and automatic scooters in straight-line acceleration events. While scooter sprinting has its own long-standing culture and classes, it operates within the wider framework of the National Sprint Association (NSA), which is recognised as the main governing body for motorcycle sprinting in the UK.

Scooter classes are officially included within NSA regulations and championship events, with dedicated categories for both historic and open-class scooters. The relationship allows scooter racers to compete alongside motorcycles at NSA meetings while maintaining their own specialist classes, records and competitive scene. Scooter sprinting has been part of British speed competition since the 1960s, and today the BSSA helps keep that tradition alive by encouraging new riders, promoting technical development and ensuring scooters remain a visible and respected part of the UK sprinting community.
